QUINCY — Quincy Fire rescued the lone occupant of an apartments on fire Wednesday night at 47 W. Chicago Street in Quincy.
Fire fighters were training at 6:46 p.m. two blocks away when the call came in. They arrived within three minutes.Smoke could be seen coming from the single-story multiple unit building at the corner or U.S. 12 and Arnold Street.
Forcing open the door, a woman was found in the thick smoke that filled the unit. Fire fighters moved her outside and began CPR. Fire officials said “The patient quickly regained a pulse and began to breathe on her own.”
LifeCare ambulance transported the patient to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital and later flown to Kalamazoo for further treatment.
Traffic along U.S. 12 detoured with fire hoses stretched across the street.
Fire fighters quickly put out the blaze confined to the one apartment.
Quincy Fire, Quincy Police with the assistance of the Coldwater Fire Marshall will determine the cause of the fire. it is believed to be accidental.
Coldwater Fire responded with automatic mutual aid. Also assisting were Michigan State Police, Branch County Victim Services, The Red Cross, and Consumers Energy.
Units were on scene until 9 p.m.
