Two men went on a recent shopping spree at a retail store in Allen Park, but when it came time to pay for the items they selected, they ran out in such a hurry one of them busted an automatic sliding door.

The shoplifting incident occurred on the afternoon of Feb. 20 at Dunham’s Sports, 23150 W. Outer Drive, and was reported to police the following day.

According to store employees, the two thieves walked into the store at 5:18 p.m. and began selecting an assortment of clothing. The first man to enter the store was a bald white man with a beard, who was wearing a red/gray jacket and blue jeans. The second man, also white, had dark hair and wore a black hoodie and black pants.

At 5:43 p.m., a store security camera captured the men running out of the store with their arms full of various clothing items. One of the thieves struck his body against the automatic door, causing it to slide off track.

The employees told police they observed the men enter a late-model gray sedan, at which point they fled the scene. The driver of the waiting sedan was described as a black man, but employees were unable to see what he looked like or what he was wearing.

Store employees estimated the value of the stolen clothing at approximately $500. They also said the store had to call for a repair person to fix and secure the broken door.
