The following contains spoilers for The Devil is a Part-Timer! Season 2, Episode 1, "The Devil Screams in Sasazuka," now streaming on Crunchyroll

The Devil is a Part-Timer! Season 2, Episode 1 reintroduces Ente Isla as Satan’s domain where he ruled over demons. Like his biblical counterpart, Ente Isla’s Satan is also associated with terror and cruelty, and is known to have four trusted demon generals: Lucifer, Adramelech, Alciel, and Malacoda.

Prior to their lives on Earth, Satan strived to conquer the human world in order to create a peaceful, prosperous existence for demons and other night creatures residing in his realm. This ambition was averted by Emilia Justina, who stormed Satan's castle with her sacred sword. This caused Satan to retreat with the promise that he will one day subjugate humanity. Years later, after the disappearance of Emilia, Satan, and Alciel, the five-continent federation of knights worked to wipe out the remnants of Satan’s army on a massive scale. Since then, a mysterious new entity has taken over Satan’s realm with the question “where did you go wrong?”

In the present, Satan is working as a part-time employee on Earth at the fast-food joint MgRonald as Sadao Maou. His demon general Alciel has taken to managing their apartment as a househusband named Shiro Ashiya, while Lucifer has become a compulsive spender as Hanzo Urushihara. Ashiya is profoundly unhappy with their current state of affairs and is even less impressed by Urushihara's uncontrolled spending habits as it is draining their finances and resources. To add to their plight, the trio of demons is out of food and tea, with Ashiya scolding Urushihara about not making more tea to replenish what he consumed.

During all this commotion, Maou decides to head to work when he accidentally runs into Emilia who is standing at their door. Ashiya thinks Emilia, aka Emi Yusa, has been eavesdropping on their conversation, though she confirms this isn’t the case. Instead, she points out their yelling is loud enough to be heard by anyone and relays back what she heard. Maou asks if she's poking fun at their poverty while enjoying the privileges of wealth, such as being able to afford an apartment with airconditioning.

After arguing with Emi a bit longer, Maou heads to work and Ashiya complains he and Urushihara need to pull their weight around to help out. To that end, Ashiya decides to pursue long-term employment and to stop working temporary jobs. With the decision to seek full-time employment, Ashiya tasks Urushihara with taking up his domestic duties.

On his way to work, Maou runs into his coworker Chiho Sasaki, who comments on his brand new ¥30,000 bicycle -- a gift from Suzuno Kamazuki, aka Crestia Bel, after she destroyed his original bike. This is confirmed by Suzuno during her conversation with Emi at her apartment. Suzuno taking up such a massive expense concerns Emi as the former is not employed. Suzuno, however, reassures Emi the expense was not an issue since she sold the Grand Hoshin Church objects she brought from Ente Isla at Mugihyo.

Emi changes the subject to discuss whether a new assassin has descended from heaven, or if Sariel is after the sacred sword again. Suzuno doubts this is the case as Sariel has since taken on a new interest: fast food. This is immediately confirmed when an obese Sariel, aka Mitsuki Sarue, walks into the MgRonald Maou works at to order a large meal. This new obsession with fast food concerns both he and Chiho due to the amount of weight he's put on. Ironically, the MgRonald manager is grateful for the sales he contributes, but wishes he would stop bringing gaudy bouquets.

Back at Maou’s apartment, Ashiya instructs Urushihara on how to use the semi-automatic washer, and how to vacuum while the laundry is being washed. He even goes into detail about the proper way to handle clothes for washing, drying and folding. Urushihara, however, stops paying attention when he hears a crawling noise coming from the closet. Ashiya dismisses this concern but demands that Urushihara finish the household chores while goes to run some errands at the library and supermarket.

Emi asks Suzuno if she always has to listen to the commotion of Maou’s roommates as her next door neighbors and confirms that she does. She also states that on this particular day, they are behaving more esoteric than usual. After Maou finishes his work shift, Chiho asks if he can stop by his apartment building to give his neighbor Suzuno the flax stalk she brought with her. Maou thinks this is thoughtful of Chiho, but at the same time, doesn’t feel as though the timing is right for a visit based on the weather patterns. As Maou suspected, a rainstorm breaks out, though Chiho decides to escort him home since she has an umbrella.

At the apartment, Urushihara once again hears a crawling noise while he’s finishing his vacuuming. The source of the noise is revealed to be none other than a cockroach, which Urushihara refers by its Latin name, Blatella germanica. When he hears the creepy crawler again, he assumes another cockroach -- Periplaneta fuligiosa -- is in their midst. Urushihara’s ordeal with the cockroach draws the attention Emi, Suzuno, Maou and Chiho, though only Suzuno succeeds in killing the roach with her mallet.

In the aftermath of the roach incident, Emi talks about how cockroaches are typically found in old apartment buildings and don’t tend to appear in newer buildings. Hearing the term "cockroach" disgusts Urushihara, and the groups discusses their preferred terms for them. After the Chiho and Suzuno light the flax stalks outside the apartment, a portal opens in the sky and a giant apple falls from it. A little girl emerges from the apple and reveals herself to be Alas Ramus, Satan’s daughter with Emilia. This news upsets everyone as no one can fathom Emilia or Satan choosing to make a baby together, especially Emi and Maou themselves.
