SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A semiautomatic firearm was recovered in a Peninsula drug bust last week, South San Francisco police said.
A 54-year-old Pacifica man was arrested on suspicion of drug and weapons charges, police said.
Officers in the early morning hours of July 8 contacted the suspect at a hotel in the 200 block of South Airport Boulevard, police said.
Officers during a consent search of the suspect's vehicle found a backpack containing approximately two pounds of packaged marijuana, a digital scale, a glass pipe and a loaded semiautomatic firearm, police said.
The suspect is a convicted felon prohibited from owning or possessing firearms, and was wanted on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant, police said.
"This was an example of proactive police work resulting in the safe apprehension of an armed drug dealer," South San Francisco Police Chief Scott Campbell said in a statement.
"Awesome job Officer Alvarenga and his fellow graveyard weeknight team members! Keep up the great work!"
