Last summer, Lisa Turchin was watching an episode of “Clarkson’s Farm,” the Amazon Prime Video reality series starring British television presenter Jeremy Clarkson, a newbie farmer with a penchant for extravagance. In one episode, Mr. Clarkson goes shopping for his first tractor—rejecting a rusty Super Major and a restored Massey Ferguson in favor of a Lamborghini R8 with 80 gears. Ms. Turchin said Mr. Clarkson immediately reminded her of her husband, Gary Turchin, 56, an ad agency owner turned newbie farmer with a penchant for extravagance. “Oh my gosh. That is him,” Ms. Turchin, 52, said. “It is the British Gary.” 

Since 2019, when the Turchins bought a roughly 91-acre farm in Vermont, Mr. Turchin has embraced the couple’s farm lifestyle with gusto, springing for a John Deere tractor with air conditioning and Bluetooth speakers, building a state-of-the-art chicken coop with automatic doors and renovating a picturesque stable that would be at home on any Walt Disney movie set. “He’s always doing the over-the-top extra,” said Ms. Turchin.
