COLUMBUS — Ninety-eight Ohio schools in 27 counties have been awarded $4.8 million in grants help them improve the overall safety and security of their buildings. Among them is Tri-Rivers Career Center in Marion, which will receive $99,784.
Funds will be used to cover expenses associated with physical security enhancements such as security cameras, public address systems, automatic door locks and visitor badging systems.
The K-12 School Safety Grant Program is one of two new school safety programs first launched by the Ohio School Safety Center in 2021. As part of the Campus Safety Grant Program, 27 institutions of higher education in Ohio also received grants to fund security enhancements on their campuses.
ONTARIO — The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, Inc. has selected the 2022 Scholarship Program award recipients. Scholarships are made possible by the annual meeting sponsorships.
Emma Golling, of Seneca County, is a nursing student at Marion Technical College and plans to pursue her BSN. Golling is a recipient of a $1,000 scholarship award.
Alexa Konkle, a resident of Wyandot County, is enrolled at North Central State College and is pursuing an associate degree in respiratory therapy. Konkle is a recipient of a $1,000 scholarship award.
Elizabeth Dvorak, of Huron County, attends the University of Akron and is pursuing a degree in biomedical science. Dvorak is the recipient of the $2,000 scholarship award.
The Area Agency on Aging Corporate Board of Trustees elected to provide one $2,000 scholarship for an individual enrolled in a course of study that benefits the aging network at a four-year university, one $1,000 award to an individual who is enrolled in courses benefitting the aging network at a technical or a two-year college, and one $1,000 award to an individual who is attending any higher institute of learning or certification that may benefit the aging network.

The Ohio Department of Transportation says Ohio 529 at Whetstone River Road will close starting Monday through Friday, May 27, for culvert replacement. The detour will be Ohio 746 to Ohio 98 to Ohio 95 to Ohio 529 or reverse.
