The 2022 Audi e-Tron GT is a stylish and sporty EV, but it's more expensive than a Tesla Model S.

The 2022 Audi e-Tron GT is a brand-new offering in the four-door sedan segment which is currently headed by the mighty Porsche Taycan. Being based on the same platform as the Taycan, this Audi is a fast and ridiculously luxurious offering. The chiseled exterior design turns heads and the beautifully crafted interior takes things a step further.

Launched at a base selling price of $102,400, this executive luxury car comes with the advanced 800-volt propulsion architecture which makes sure that the car puts a smile on your face while being ridiculously fast in charging. Offered in three trim configurations, the 2022 Audi e-Tron GT is here to compete with the likes of Porsche Taycan, Tesla Model S, and Lucid Air. Before going forward with the purchase decision, here are 10 things you need to know before buying the 2022 Audi e-Tron GT.

Look at the 2022 Audi e-Tron GT and the sleek and sporty design language makes it look stunning. The striking design of the e-Tron GT is mainly highlighted by the imposing front end with a superb length and width that is superior to most of its rivals. The modern design features multiple elements to make it stand out from the Porsche Taycan too.

The hunkered-down look coupled with the Matrix LED headlights with the optional Audi laser lights, electric rear spoiler, a broad diffuser, and a massive panoramic roof makes the e-Tron GT both sporty and elegant. The sloping roofline looks very aerodynamic, and the clean lines make it ravishing when on the open road.

Coming with two different engine tunes depending on the trim that you opt for, you are not going to feel short-changed in terms of performance. The dual synchronous electric motors with 93 kWh Li-ion battery help both the Premium Plus and Prestige trims to give out 522 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque.

With the dual electric motor setup, the 2022 Audi e-Tron GT comes with AWD as standard too. The 2-speed automatic transmission is standard and this helps the e-Tron GT to give out an impressive 0-60 MPH time of 3.6 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 11.9 seconds. However, the Tesla Model S is still a bit faster.

With a 93-kWh battery pack coupled with the advanced 800-volt propulsion architecture, you might expect the 2022 Audi e-Tron GT to blow you away in terms of range. However, like the Porsche Taycan, the e-Tron GT doesn't come out anywhere close to what the Tesla offers.

Even though this architecture helps in reducing heat quite significantly, the range of 238 miles offered by the lower two trims of the e-Tron GT is much lesser than the Model S which offered a whopping 370 miles of range. The combined MPGe rating of 82 isn't impressive either. If you get the RS trim, the range and MPGe figures go down even further.

The coupe-like roofline does hamper the interior space significantly, especially for the rear seat passengers. Get into the rear seat and the passengers are not going to be happy with the subpar 32.2" of legroom and 36.5" of headroom. However, the headroom turned out to be slightly better in the e-Tron GT than in the Tesla Model S.

The low height of the 2022 e-Tron GT is going to be a deal breaker for family buyers. Even though it is a 5-seater executive sedan, the middle seat passenger's legs wouldn't fit in comfortably due to the protruding console in the rear. However, the front row was quite spacious and there is enough cargo capacity in the trunks located at the front and rear.

Like any premium 4-door luxury sedans out there, the pricing is a bit too steep for the 2022 Audi e-Tron GT. However, in comparison to the Tesla Model S, which is its biggest competitor, it feels even less value for money.

Priced at an MSRP of $94,990, the Tesla Model S comes with much better performance numbers and acceleration figures than the Audi. The range is superior too. The interior gets many standard features as well, some of which are only part of the optional packages of the e-Tron GT.

Regenerative braking is present in all three trims of the 2022 Audi e-Tron GT. The Premium Plus and Prestige trims get the support for one-pedal driving, however, Audi has omitted the selectable regenerative braking modes from these trims.

The top-spec RS trim gets selectable regenerative braking modes with the help of the paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel. Other braking features like ventilated rotors, brake assist, ABS with EBD, hill hold control, hill descent control, and the automated emergency braking are standard across the trims too.

If you want the most powerful trim of the lot, the e-Tron GT RS is the one to get. Priced at $143,895, the e-Tron GT RS managed to come with 637 hp and 612 lb-ft of torque and retains the same 2-speed automatic transmission and the AWD drivetrain as well.

The other major performance upgrades with the RS lie in the form of long list options including carbon ceramic brakes, carbon fiber exterior inlays, 21" alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli summer tires, rear axle steering, and dynamic steering. There are many interior and exterior changes as well.

Like many other offerings from Audi, the 2022 Audi e-Tron GT comes with a smooth and refined MMI touchscreen infotainment system with a 10.1" display stacked on the middle of the dashboard. This infotainment offers many features like wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, steering-mounted controls, voice recognition, and Bluetooth.

The Premium Plus and Prestige trims of the 2022 Audi e-Tron GT come with an Audi Sound System as standard. However, the 2022 Audi e-Tron GT RS gets the impressive 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system. There is a digital signal processor and a 710w premium amplifier too.

The interior of the 2022 Audi e-Tron GT is a great place to be in and that is further emphasized by the many interior features on offer. The power adjustable 14-way sport seats in Dinamica and leatherette are standard across the trims and the buyer can also opt for the even more premium Nappa leather.

Other features like panoramic glass, automatic climate control air conditioning, Audi Virtual Cockpit Plus, an impressive Bang & Olufsen audio system, and remote climatization support through the myAudi smartphone app are onboard too. The full-leather interior package and performance package brings in many more goodies as well.

The 2022 Audi e-Tron GT comes with a myriad of safety and driver-assistance techs, many of which are part of the optional packages. The standard driver-assistance features include forward collision warning and automated emergency braking.

The basic safety features like ABS, airbags, traction control, stability control, and tire pressure monitoring system are standard. However, you would need to pay more for getting the features like adaptive cruise control, remote park assist, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
