A collision Tuesday afternoon led to a criminal obstruction charge for a Guelph male.
The Guelph Police Service was called approximately 2:10 p.m. to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Woodlawn Road West and Arrow Road. The owner of one of the vehicles was on scene but denied he was driving and implicated another male.
Subsequent investigation revealed the owner had been in the driver’s seat. An 18-year-old Guelph male is charged with obstructing police, driving without insurance, driving with unauthorized licence plates and several other Highway Traffic Act offences. He will appear in a Guelph court September 27, 2022.
Officers didn’t have to go far to make an arrest after a glass door at the downtown police station was smashed late Tuesday.
Approximately 11:30 p.m., a female attended the police station and attempted to open the sliding glass doors, which were locked. She kicked the doors several times before removing a hammer from her backpack and using it to strike the door frame and automatic door opener, damaging both. She then used the hammer to smash the glass door.
This was heard by officers working inside. The female was immediately arrested.
A 40-year-old Guelph female is charged with mischief under $5,000, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and breach of probation. She was held for a bail hearing Wednesday.
The Guelph Police Service is investigating a break and enter during which photos of the victim’s deceased daughter were stolen.
Approximately 5 a.m. Tuesday, the victim was in her home in the area of Municipal Street and Elson Drive when she heard a noise in the house. She believed it was her husband, then noticed her purse missing and observed two people running down the street.
The purse – described as mustard-coloured with a leopard print -- held a digital camera with photos of the victim’s late daughter. Police checked the area but were unable to locate the suspects.
