It's Memorial Day weekend, a time greatly anticipated on the Seacoast as the weekend you can finally plant your seedlings and celebrate the arrival of the summer season. It's also a time to take a moment to remember and say thank you to all those who have died to preserve our freedom. Here's five things to do this holiday weekend.
The Great New England Seacoast Food Truck Festival returns Saturday, May 28 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. to the Kittery outlets in the Old Navy parking lot off Route 1. There will be a dozen food trucks, free parking, crafters, live music, Kidz Zone with two bounce houses, face painters, cold craft NE brews, summer cocktails and $100 door prize. Cost is $5 per person (children 10 and under free) at gate or advance tix skip line at ticketleap.com. Proceeds in part benefit local lacrosse teams.

The Portsmouth Historical Society harnesses the magic of picture book art in its latest exhibit, “Imagine That! The Power of Picture Books,” which is open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Sept. 25. Featuring original artwork by over 30 illustrators, a bookmaking station, play space, toy theater and reading nook, it is the largest exhibit in the historical society’s history. Exhibit is free to everyone under 18, over 70, military and members, and $10 for others.
The Bob Dylan Appreciation Society presents the 20th annual Bob Dylan Appreciation Night at The Blue Mermaid Restaurant, 10 Shapleigh Road, Kittery, Maine on Thursday, May 26 at 7:30 p.m.
Local artist and troubadour Dan Blakeslee hosts a night of Bob Dylan songs performed live, in an open mic format. All fans of Bob Dylan are invited to attend and anyone who is so inclined can perform their favorite song(s). "Children of the Grim" by Billy Butler and Bitter Pill runs through Sunday, June 5 at The Players' Ring Theatre. "Children of the Grim" is a neo-gothic musical staging of original and traditional children's stories, nursery rhymes, and folk songs. Bitter Pill uses classic story-telling, puppetry, theater, multi-media, and music to create a unique theatrical experience, a sardonic alternative to the usual sugar-coated children’s theater. The Tony Award-winning bio musical "The Cher Show," which is now on stage at the Ogunquit Playhouse features so much story and so much hit music it takes three women to tell Cher's tale: the enigmatic newcomer, the glamorous pop star, and the cinematic icon. Thirty-five hit songs, two rock-star husbands, and those epic Bob Mackie gowns, all in one fabulous Broadway musical that will turn back time. The show will run through June 25.
